How to Overcome Your Inner Critic and Take Action - The First Secret of the Wealthy
๐ญ Have You Ever Heard That Voice Saying "You're Not Good Enough"?
That voice in your head every time you try to start something new. The one whispering "You're not ready yet," "Other people are so much better," "You'll just embarrass yourself."
I know that voice all too well. When I first tried to start my YouTube channel, my inner critic was brutal.
"You're not qualified enough. There are people with way more experience than you. You're not even a good speaker. Who are you to give advice?"
This voice kept me from starting for months. And the same thing happened recently when I was invited to speak at a big event. That critic came right back.
"You're probably going to embarrass yourself. You'll mix up your words and make a fool of yourself. There are people who can do this so much better than you."
๐ฅ Do Wealthy People Not Have an Inner Critic?
Here's something really important: Wealthy people have inner critics too.
Every successful person I've studied, met, and spoken with has something in common. They all have that critical voice inside, but they act anyway despite it.
They tell themselves "I deserve to do this" and move forward. The difference isn't that they don't have an inner criticโit's that they've learned to recognize it as just noise.
โจ "Thanks for Sharing, But I'm Doing It Anyway"
Once I understood this, everything changed.
Now, every time my inner critic starts talking, I literally think:
"Thanks for sharing. But I'm doing it anyway."
Not because I feel confident. But because I've learned that confidence comes after doing the thing, not before. Confidence is the result of action, not a prerequisite.
Your inner critic wants to keep you safe. But safe rarely builds wealth.
๐ก How to Practice This
Next time you have an idea for a side business, want to invest in something new, or want to try a new idea:
- Notice that voice - The one telling you all the reasons why it won't work and why you shouldn't start
- Thank it - "Thanks for your concern"
- Then move forward anyway
You don't act because you feel no fear. You act despite the fear.
๐ Final Thoughts
The first secret of wealthy people wasn't special talent or luck. They simply didn't let their inner critic stop them.
Everyone has an inner critic. The difference is how you respond to that voice.
Start today. That scary thing you've been putting off. Tell your inner critic "Thanks, but I'm doing it anyway" and take that first step.
Confidence comes after you start. It never comes before.
