The Power of Obsession - The Only Way to Go From Zero to One
🚀 Have You Ever Created Something From Nothing?
August 2022. I'd been working on my channel for about 7 months. Getting some views—maybe a few hundred. Some comments here and there. But nothing life-changing.
Then around September 2022, I became utterly obsessed.
I mean literally. It was the only thing I thought about. In the mornings before work, during lunch breaks, when I got home in the evenings. On Friday nights when there was a birthday or social event, I'd always leave early to get a good night's sleep before waking up at 6 a.m. Saturday to work on the channel all weekend.
Those few months were probably the loneliest in my life. Not in terms of physical proximity, but in terms of people knowing what I was going through and actually understanding it.
⚖️ The Wrong Advice: "You Need Balance"
Well-meaning people in my life who cared about me said:
"You need balance. You're going to regret working so hard. Remember to have fun and enjoy your life."
They meant it because they genuinely cared about me. It came from a good place.
But here's the truth:
You can't have anything big or different by doing the same thing you've always done—without being completely obsessed with what you want to build.
🔢 Zero to One, Then One to Ten
To get from zero to one, there needs to be obsession. There's just no other way.
To get from one to ten? Sure, you can find balance then. You can bring in other parts of your life.
But when going from zero to one, that's impossible. You have to make sacrifices that only a few people are willing to make.
Every person I know who's done something extraordinary has had a period where they became completely obsessed with one thing. Not balanced. Not well-rounded. Just obsessed.
🎯 Finding Your "Sweet Spot" to Obsess Over
True wealth lies at the intersection of three things:
- Something you genuinely enjoy
- Something with potential to generate significant income
- Something that aligns with your natural strengths
Once you find that sweet spot, go all in.
There will be plenty of time to find balance later. But right now, in this moment of going from zero to one, complete obsession is the only answer.
📅 Have "Seasons" in Your Life
Have seasons in your life where you go all in on building something meaningful.
That's what I did. During those lonely months, I gave up everything, but that period made me who I am today.
When people around you say "You need balance," they're not wrong. But that's advice for later.
If you're going from zero to one right now, be obsessed. Completely.
💡 Action Points
- Find your sweet spot - Enjoyment + Income potential + Strengths
- Define your season - A few months, or a year, as your all-in period
- Save balance advice for later - Apply it when going from one to ten
- Accept the sacrifices - Going from zero to one has a price
📝 Final Thoughts
Behind every extraordinary achievement, there was a period of obsession.
A balanced life is beautiful, but it doesn't apply when you're creating something from nothing.
If there's something you truly want, are you ready to become obsessed?
There's no other way to go from zero to one except through obsession.
